House Rules - Character Creation

I’m looking to have a high integration of characters with the rest of the cast, so I will close character creation one week prior to game nights; meaning that if I haven’t approved the character a week before game, you will have to wait until after game night to introduce your character to the story. This rule will be adhered to for the duration of the game starting with our first session.

All characters must be approved by me. If for whatever reason I feel that the character is not suitable, I will ask that you take another crack at the character, or come back to me with another concept. I will be available to answer any questions, and will give my concerns or thoughts on the character should the above occur. Also, I stand by the right to pull the character anywhere up to and including the 2 first sessions that the character appears in. I hold by the adage that things can look good on paper but fail in practice.

Players are welcome to create a character concept not tied to any of the major Toronto lineages I’ve detailed to date, but I strongly encourage people to consider one of the lineages for their character; not just for the loot, but also it’ll help get you going with already have some social interactions mapped out for you. Often the draw backs associated with one of the lineages is that one of the other lineages is at odds with it.

As well, while many of the descendents of the detailed lineages default towards the same covenants as their predecessor, this is not the rule. Characters can be created using one of the lineages, but selecting a covenant different than the one they traditionally join. Not only will you suffer the negative draw back of that family, but as well could find yourself dealing with resentment from within your family for having crossed camps. This though is a role playing tool that players in this situation should discuss with other members of the lineage.

To further help create a level of paranoia in the game I am requesting applications for ‘evil’ characters to be placed into the player cast. The gist of this character type is that you will be working upon some agenda that is ‘evil’/antithetical to most of domain. This can take all shapes and forms, so I’ll likely lean towards the applications that are shades of grey ‘evil.’ They will continue to act as regular player characters until such time that I ‘tap’ them for use in the next story. The intent is that over the course of the story, one of these ‘evil’ characters will become the main antagonist of the plot. If you do decide to play one of these characters recognize that it may be possible the character is killed at some point during their turn as the plot focus, and that I will support the rest of the cast over this one character. I will give them a number of advantages from the start, and it will be to them to protect their interests as best as possible. This is largely being done to help facilitate a story where the antagonists not only come from without, but also from within. Please contact me privately with a character concept if you’re interested in playing one of these. There will be five in total.

Circle of the Crone is not an available Covenant for character creation. They can be pursued in game, but characters may not start off in this covenant. If you do decide to pursue this group in game understand that gaining membership will be difficult task, and will likely take time.

Players interested in playing a member of a bloodline detailed in the World of Darkness material will have to put more effort into their character concept. These characters are going to be rare, so I’m going to make you work harder to try and get one. Not only will you have to sell me on the concept, but will also have to argue why the character must absolutely be a member of a given bloodline. If I’m not convinced I will likely turn the character concept down.
