Myths - City Beneath

Continuing with the theme of underground ways, there is said to be a small opening that leads to a network of tunnels beneath the streets of Toronto. Located somewhere within the warrens of buildings the legend holds that there is an entrance between two apartment buildings, and via the sewers to the tunnels beneath. These tunnels then are to be the method by which one can gain access to the underground city said to lie beneath Toronto, the center beneath Gerrard Street and Church Street. At street level above this area there is said to be strange magnetic effects, as well as a higher accident rate than anywhere else in Toronto. Some believe that underground equipment is causing these magnetic fields which would be the cause of all these effects. The legend further posits that the local Indians have known about these tunnels enshrining their existence in a number of legends handed down generation after generation.
