A
federally-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity since 1997, works
to ensure the continued acceleration of scientific research and
medical education by facilitating the procurement and distribution
of non-transplantable tissue to medical doctors and researchers
throughout the world, which minimizes the amount of unused non-transplantable
tissue, and increasing public awareness of research tissue donation
in order to fulfill the overwhelming need of doctors, researchers
and educators.
Our mission incorporates five principles: Integrity;
Ethical Standards; Caring; Service; and Awareness.
Integrity: Tissues are recovered by specially-trained technical
and surgical staff. Both the donor and family are treated with respect
and dignity. The right to privacy is always respected.
Ethical Standards: Medical researchers and academic institutions
must qualify with the Foundation via a stringent application process
to receive organs and tissues. Only the most qualified organizations
are chosen to receive tissue. Donor anonymity is always maintained.
Caring: In recognition of the heartfelt generosity of donor
families, the LLF has instituted a donor "family support"
coordinator who personally assists families before and after the
donation. Our concern and attention does not end when the donation
process is completed.
Service:
Being a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity, LLF’s main purpose is
to provide outstanding service to all of our clients. We strive
to serve our clients in a professional, efficient and courteous
manner, with the hope of contributing to the universal effort to
save, extend and enhance the quality of life through the advancement
of medical research and education.
Awareness: LLF is committed to raising public and professional
awareness of our services and of organ and tissue donation. We conduct
a wide variety of educational programs and provide information on
an ongoing basis. Our goal is to provide families with information
with which they can make an informed decision. We provide families
an opportunity to make a contribution to humankind that may allow
them to feel a sense of purpose emerge from their loss.
