Rumours leading up to
this session:
With the abrupt end to the Inquisitor-General’s gathering
– caused in no small part by the sudden attack against Florian
Durand by the Master of Elysium, and the Prince – it has taken
a while for this rumor to spread throughout the domain: Florian
Durand has named himself the Prince of Milton. While for many decades
this region has been called home by the Head of the Invictus; it
has always been understood to be part of the Toronto domain. What
all of this means remains unclear – though all agree a praxis
seizure at this point with the Brood still a threat would be a poor
time for one.
Initially it had appeared that Ronin was assuming the title of
Master Keeper. Instead he has been invested with primary care for
the security of the Elysium in his continued capacity as an Assistant
Keeper.
The building may still be under renovation, but the Inquisitor-General
has gone ahead and called for this gathering to be held at the St.
Japheth Lancea Sanctum church. Many hope for good news in the war
against Belial’s Brood, while others yet will be in attendance
to find out if anything more has come of this Prince Durand of Milton
business. Others wonder if the newly named Prince will dare set
foot in the domain.
This month, with the apprehension of members from the satanic cult
charged with numerous murders committed during the month of March,
victims have begun to find their justice. Already the police, after
having members of the homeless community step forward and positively
identify individuals from the brutal slaying of John Doe late February
26th 2007 in the small St. Andrews church park, have begun to punish
those responsible for the atrocities committed then, and in the
following month. Media attention has been riveted to these proceedings,
as they wait for what is being deemed a minor case to be closed,
and the more sensational cases involving the attack against one
of the police training kennels, or the vicious attack on the UofT
campus to begin.
The Mayor spoke early this month to thank all the men and women
of the Police force for the diligence shown while investigating
the travesties visited upon Toronto last month; “proving that
these officers can be counted upon to serve and protect.”
The Chief of Police was praised repeatedly throughout the speech.
In answer to a question from the media, the Mayor said that he feels
confident order has been restored, that justice will be swift, and
“these foul cultists find themselves locked behind bars for
the rest of their lives.”
And as if in answer to the Mayor’s pronouncement a video
is produced by the Crown Attorneys in the Degroat case clearly showing
the arrested men and women breaking into a pad locked construction
vehicle depot while other members of their cult are seen dragging
the owner Nick Degroat back into his store front office. While the
second group has yet to be apprehended, police are confident that
it is only a matter of time before they round up all of the cultists,
and place them behind bars. The general populace is asked not to
panic, but should they notice anything extraordinary, that they
immediately contact the police and not approach anyone who may seem
to be acting in an erratic or peculiar manner.
Celebrated a triumph by the Canadian legal system all trials have
returned guilty verdicts against the cultists for the death of a
homeless man only identified as John Doe discovered in late February,
and believed by law officials to be the first killing committed
by the group; the atrocity committed at the police training kennel;
the slaying of University of Toronto undergraduate Sara Talton on
campus; and Nick Degroat. While senior members of the cult, like
the charismatic Marcel who believes himself a vampire in service
to Satan – identified by the apprehended cultists who disclosed
these details during their trails, have yet to be apprehended. Both
the City of Toronto and the Province have assured the public that
breakthroughs in those investigations are only days away.
Many have been grumbling over the last month as the DVP suffered
major closures across most of the city. These closures were expected
to be limited to the evening, and even then certain areas were to
be kept open to allow some travel across the city. “This construction
has been started in late spring to aid the flow of traffic for the
up coming summer, as well as environmental concerns regarding the
build up of emissions that only further add to the smog problem
faced by Toronto citizens,” explained senior City Hall bureaucrat
Penelope Hallahan. The hope is that by adding additional lanes to
the DVP they can cut down on the emissions caused when traffic is
delay along the Parkway.
Unfortunately the construction that was supposed to take only one
week was instead delayed, and ended up taking a month to be completed.
As construction began the initial phase of the project was hampered
by the City’s decision to use private companies; causing many
city workers to walk off the job in solidarity with City of Toronto
Transport Services in a quickly organized wildcat strike. Thankfully
negotiation managed to broker a peace between the workers and management
seeing the incident brought quickly to a close.
In many ways the City of Toronto acts as a litmus test for the
rest of Canada. Often watched with great interest, due to a record
for innovations to have come out of the city; this may be the cause
for the Torontonian mentality that they exist at the centre of the
country. With trials like the Police Kennel, and the Degroat case,
as well as the continued delays with the DVP construction, the news
seems to be filled with stories regarding Toronto. Adding to this
miasma of news is a report by CBC anchor Darren Etherton regarding
the DVP project, and apparent interest growing within the Federal
Government seeking to meet the green agenda established by the Liberals
back during the 1990s. Promises broken for so long, the Kyoto Accord
worth no more than the paper it was written on, there is hope that
this project in Toronto could be one in a set of steps implemented
across the country to meet the targets once agreed to.
But just as work was to begin anew, the Toronto Native Community
brought a grievance against the Provincial Government which entailed
a request for restitution of the very land that the DVP construction
was occurring on. Initial refusal by the government caused the land
claim to become a full blown problem for the city through escalating
rounds of protests culminating in early morning protests along the
DVP specifically targeted at high traffic areas. The result was
snarled commuter traffic in the morning and evening causing construction
to be delayed by days while the Province discussed their options
to resolve the dispute. Eventually the government caved as millions
of dollars are said to have been lost by Ontario through these extended
road delays and closures.
Overshadowed by the more sensational satanic cultists’ trials,
what would have once been deemed sensational enough for front cover
coverage, has instead been bumped back to page five in all of the
major news papers for the city and the province; three major banks
in the Toronto area have presented evidence to the Province regarding
discovered Russian Mob laundering activities. The accounts have
been seized as lawyers from these institutions speak with the Crown
Attorney’s Office.
Global News this month manages to break two news stories before
the other channels reporting on the increase of home invasions occurring
throughout the Leaside area, as well as a report that convicted
pedophile Allan Merrow was released from jail and placed in a Flemington
halfway home. Officials have asked that citizens in the area remain
calm, and trust measures in place to ensure the protection of the
low-income community from this repeat offender. Sources within the
police, who agreed to speak only on condition of anonymity, say
that all reports from the corrections facility where Merrow served
his time agree that Merrow is likely to re-offend.
Sunday April 15th 2007 – Rounding off their fundraiser for
the weekend HEAVEN closed as promised early in the evening in memoriam
of all the victims who suffered in recent months. While the proceeds
for this weekend fundraiser were donated to the families struck
by the specific March tragedies – called by many news agencies
the most violent in Toronto’s history – management at
the upscale club wanted this people this night to remember the living
victims who must continue to struggle with the grief inflicted upon
them.
An initiative once spearheaded by the philanthropist Chronos Foundation
to find a bed for every single homeless person on the street, naysayed
by many pessimists, has been accomplished this month. What was believed
impossible has instead become reality. The success here has lead
spokeswoman Mallory Shepley of the Raising the Roof charity to proclaim
this a momentous step towards proving that affordable short term
housing is possible for the homeless community. And that from this
position it will be possible to help these men, women, and children
get another chance in life; to rejoin the rest of society.
April marked the Humane Society’s annual adopt-a-pet campaign
– in particular dogs – no longer a weekend long event,
but one that ran the entire month. Previously restricted by funding
the non-profit organization was only ever able to hold the event
for a weekend in a given year. This year with generous donations
from their private donors they were able to hold it for the entire
month. There target is to have no more than 10% of their dog population
in the building by the time they’re done with the campaign.
June will be the month long cat adoption blitz.

Rumours after
Elysium
The news from the Lancea Sanctum gathering has left many worried
as continued instability seems to plague Toronto. Confused reports
are still making the rounds, but the following details seem to be
settling as fact. Inquisitor-General Roland Kaine who called the
gathering to continue discussions regarding Belial’s Brood,
and the efforts against them to date, seized Praxis under claims
of martial law.
Some have wondered where Prince Jameson was during this. Seen near
the beginning of the evening, she – along with the entirety
of the Invictus present that evening – departed to another
of the Sanctified St. Japheth church rooms, where the covenant met
in privacy. While she was not seen later that evening amidst the
Inquisitor-General’s assumption of power; it has been said
by many in attendance at the Invictus meeting – or by those
closely allied with members of said covenant – that Prince
Jameson during that meeting chose to abdicate her claim to the throne.
Interestingly the dispute that initiated this meeting of the Invictus
– Florian Durand’s claim to the Praxis of Milton –
has been settled by the new Lancea Sanctum government. Lord Durand
has been formally recognized by the Inquisitor-General before the
Court as the Prince of Milton. Prince Durand in return pledged continued
aid to Toronto against Belial’s Brood.
No longer lead by the newly named Prince Durand, and the once Prince
Jameson acquiescing her power, many are surprised to learn that
it is not Mr. de Navarre who will speak for the First Estate, but
instead Matthew Steward. The newly appointed leader will have his
mettle tested if the rumors are true that the young Ventrue will
be leading one of the major assaults against the Brood.
Even more surprising was the new Prince’s (or Inquisitor-General
as he would have you call him) choice of Reeve. Instead of turning
to the many Invictus who comprised his previous posse of Archons,
Kaine chose to give the position to Ronin of the Ordo Dracul. With
the recent troubles between the Dragons and the Invictus some wonder
if this choice might only heighten these tensions.
Many wait and watch. Claims were made that this martial law would
be a temporary measure, but as the ranks of the Lancea Sanctum continue
to swell – not only through their own membership but the apparent
alliance the Sanctified have with the Carthians of NAMI Corp, and
the growing schism within the Invictus ranks; many cannot but help
wonder: Will there ever be peace and stability in the Toronto domain?
