It’s clear that the Lancea Sanctum or at least the Archbishop has ruled the Carthian Parliament an affront to the Prince. But then again what does it hurt if they talk. They want to talk about the Masquerade, and there isn’t anything wrong in wanting to take a role in protecting your city. Is there? No doubt all of this talk of the Masquerade is going to turn to talk of the racks. While Dionclath has not had the best of record as of late, it is clear that they have been effective in bringing some normalcy back to the hunting grounds. The tension that was so palatable just days ago seems to have evaporated. But new storm clouds gather on the horizon as mortals worry about all the killings and murders that have happened over the last month. And the kindred worry if there is going to be a return of hard times. Some hope that this gathering will also be an opportunity to find out what is causing all these deaths. Is this still the work of Justin Fairfax? Or does his childer strike at the court from the darkness attempting to avenge her deranged sire.

Rumours leading up to this session:

In support of the many brave men and women who serve on the force and put their lives daily at risk for the safety of society the University of Toronto made a substantive donation to a number of internal charitable funds utilized for aid given to both men and women injured in the line of duty, but also the many families that get left in the wake of those who fall in the line of duty. Surprising the donations were not made on behalf of the University itself, but instead a decision was made by the institution to have the money donated on all of the citizens of the city to the police department, and while caused by the Valentine fatalities, it is the hope of the University that the money be used to ease the burdens faced by all of the force across Toronto.

Not long after the University makes headlines with their substantive donation then the murder of second year Political Science student Sara Talton hits the headlines. In the late hours on March 9th the young UofT student was staying late in the King’s Circle College building; where she takes a number of classes. There she was attacked by a number of assailants that killed her somewhere within the building. The police have kept the details under strict silence while the investigation is ongoing and have offered what information and assurances they can, but many parents have begun to worry that the school may no longer be a safe place for their child to study. The University has both expressed its regrets that such a tragic event has occurred, and is working to increase the safety both through their internal means - the campus security - and coordinated efforts with Toronto Law Enforcement.

March 13th a missing persons report was opened for a Nick Degroat, who according to police are treating this disappearance as suspicious due to evidence found at the construction vehicle rental business the Degroat’s own in East York. A plea has been made by his wife Denise Degroat, and his two children, that whoever is responsible for this disappearance provide confirmation that he is still alive and well. While the police have released few details on this incident they believe that on March 11th Mr. Degroat was closing up his business when he was accosted by a group of assailants. No further details are forthcoming at this time, and have asked that anyone who may have witnessed the events of that night please contact crime stoppers.

Early on the morning of March 20th a gruesome site was found at one of the police force training kennels. All of the animals and support staff (which include two officers and the building janitor) were killed along with the dogs they were caring for. Public sympathy for this atrocious crime has been overwhelming and the struggling police force is thankful of this support. With matters clearing up in Scarborough, and their recovery from the spat of violence back in February in Toronto’s downtown entertainment district, the police force - according to both politicians and the general public - has full support in all their efforts to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.

While the media has not been able to divulge any names, high ranking members of the police force have leaked some internal memorandums that clearly suggest many with Toronto law enforcement believe that they are dealing with the possible activities of a cult who have turned to ritualistic murder. While there has been no official confirmation from the Commissioner his meeting with the Premier early this week leads many to surmise that an official request for RCMP involvement has been made.

Classified as John Doe due to a lack of documentation found on the remains, the police force has released a description of the man in the hopes that some member of the community may recall details from the night of February 26th. Found in a small park by St. Andrews church located near King and Simcoe the police have asked that anyone who may have seen something odd from that night in the general area please contact Crime Stoppers.

Club District to Host “Take Back The Night” Vigil

TORONTO – Toronto's famous downtown club district will play host to a “Take Back the Night” vigil to commemorate the on-duty killing of an on-duty police officer during the spat of violence in February suffered by the men and women serving in the police force. The event, scheduled for two weeks from Saturday, was announced at a press conference organized by the Toronto Nightclub Committee.

“We're hoping that this event will be a kind of rallying point for people who want to see a safer city” said Committee spokesperson Matthew Steward. “Since we had that brief outbreak of incidents a couple of months ago, we've really noticed how even a few acts of violence can contribute to this sort of feeling of insecurity, especially for younger women who just want to be able to enjoy themselves on the weekend without having to worry about getting home safely. By organizing this event, we're really glad to be able to take a leadership role in helping to create a secure environment where people can just go out and have a good time.”

The rally is to be hosted by Much Music’s Sarah Taylor and CBC television's George Stroumboulopoulos, and will feature primarily local talent including such bands as Arcade Fire, Kardinal Offishall, and the Pocket Dwellers. All proceeds will be donated to various women's shelters throughout the GTA.

Although it has been several weeks since the last major incident in the area, club owners have noticed a temporary decline in crowd turnout since violence began making headlines in the local media. In response, club owners have increased security in and particularly outside their establishments. The Committee has also begun to implement a policy of cooperation and communication between security staff from different clubs.

“The one good thing that's come out of this is that it's really highlighted the need for somebody to step up and take some positive action on this issue” concluded Stewart. “That's what we're here for.”

Official Statement from the Ordo Dracul - Before

"The upcoming Carthian Parliament is proving to be a rather controversial event, as was no doubt intended by its organizers. In light of this, the Ordo Dracul would like to clarify our position on such gatherings.

The Elysium is open to all kindred who are capable of comporting themselves in concordance with its rules, as originally established almost two centuries ago. The Ordo Dracul's role is maintenance of the sanctity of the Elysium, which includes playing host to any gathering sponsored by kindred of standing within the domain.

As such, our hosting of any gathering should not be taken as approbation of that same event. It is not our place to approve or disapprove of any discussion which takes place within the walls of Elysium, but rather to provide the space where any kindred of standing may speak their mind, even the ones we might disagree with."

The Carthian Parliament: a warning from the Lancea Sanctum - Before

Damned of the Domain,

The Carthian Movement has issued a proposition to this Court. They have stated that they wish to hold a parliament: a session of representation by vampyres in the Domain to discuss issues of import to this city. The Carthians would have you believe that this dialogue, inspired by mortal political systems, will serve as an ideal template for debate within the Damned.

They are wrong.

We, every one of us, are immortal predators whose unlives are a Curse set upon us by God. If you doubt this, look no further than the fact that you exist as a supernatural blight against nature. You are a nightmare – a monster that lurks in the shadows and turns to dust at the merest of hint of God's universal bearer of life, the Sun. Indeed, you are the embodiment of the miraculous and the terrible power of God's Will on earth.

In casting us into the shadows, the Lord tasked us with a divine mission to inspire fear in the kine. Why? So that, in their fear, they might find a deeper love of His Will and His Kingdom. So that they might seek shelter and solace in His divine wisdom as they flee in terror from us. For this mission, the Lord did Curse us with terrible gifts to make us monstrous and inhuman and separate us from the mortal world of men.

Now, the Carthians seek to use a construct of humanity, that of democracy, to debate the tenets of our dark and inhuman Requiem. I, and the rest of the Church of Longinus, say that do so is not just a foolish exercise but a treacherous act of blasphemy against all that is holy in this Domain.

What is more, the Carthians have committed an act of heresy in willingly aiding and abetting the flight of a childe sired illegally in this Domain by a confessed heretic and terrorist who sought nothing less than the destruction of the Prince and her Invictus covenant. Indeed, the Carthians show no sign of abating their impudent acts of rebellion against the First Estate and the rule of our sovereign.

  • We, the spiritual guardians of this Requiem, will no longer allow such bold acts of infidelity to go unanswered.
  • We, the Lancea Sanctum, denounce the Carthian Parliament as blasphemy and condemn the covenant's rebellious actions as treachery against the will of the Prince and the laws she has decreed for the good of the Domain.
  • We, the Lancea Sanctum, stand in full support of the First Estate, the Invictus, and their continued support of the traditions and tenets of the Second Estate.
  • We, the Lancea Sanctum, urge each and every vampyre in this domain to reject the pathetic ideals of Connor Truman and his Carthian covenant as a violation against the sacred wisdom of the Dark Prophet, Longinus, by the Lord God, Almighty

Clearly, this Carthian Movement is nothing but a blindfold to keep the Damned from knowing what it is to have a divine purpose in God's Kingdom. If so, let these fools stumble around in the dark on their own for they shall certainly bring nothing but misery and despair to all those who follow them.

May Longinus bless us and the Lord curse us,

Giovanni d'Allesandro
Archbishop, Lancea Sanctum
Parish of York

Riley’s Open Letter to d’Alessandro - Before

Mr. d'Allesandro and the Rest of the Domain,

In your Words Giovanni..."The Carthians have committed an act of heresy in willingly aiding and abetting the flight of a childe sired illegally in this Domain by a confessed heretic and terrorist who sought nothing less than the destruction of the Prince and her Invictus covenant." I stated at the trial publicly that I had no knowledge of where this bastard childe was. To this day I still have no knowledge as to where this childe is. Yet you sully my name by calling me a heretic, when have I ever professed rebellion against our Prince.

"Condemn the covenant's rebellious actions as treachery against the will of the Prince and the laws she has decreed for the good of the Domain." Again you insult me... it was the Prince who requested that Dionclath be created to protect and keep the racks prosperous. I will be the first to admit that I was not ready for what happened in the racks and take full responsibility for our feeding problems in the past, if the Prince wishes to punish me in some way that is her right. However as you may have noticed the coterie has re-stabilized the racks and it is now again safe to feed in the Downtown Rack as well as the Scarborough Rack. If I was being rebellious and treacherous and going against the laws of the Prince, would I have accepted the position? Would I have devoted all my time and effort to restoring the racks along with the other members of the coterie? I say not I would have spat in all of your faces and told you to find your own damned food. I believe that I have done nothing but try to help this city in the only way that I know how... by doing what the Prince asks of me.

David Riley

Founder of Dionclath

Rumours after Elysium:

Where to start? For those unable to attend the Elysium, or perhaps inclined not to attend because of the expected Carthian Parliament, you missed out. Or at least that’s the buzz. While the Carthians never arrived to hold their Parliament, instead moving it across the street to one of the quiet cafes that overlook the Elysium, to be focused around discussion of the Masquerade – many spent the evening discussing the increase in violence (at the hands of Belial’s Brood if the Reeve is correct) and the toll it may have on the aforementioned tradition. Throughout the news, more and more of the attacks are being linked – even if they aren’t. The mortals are starting to scrutinize these nocturnal events looking for patterns, and that is becoming a worry for many.

Unlike in the past when the Ordo Dracul had asked that members of the court abide by the rules and generally act civilly while present, they instead scrutinize those who attend and watch carefully to ensure that the tranquility of the evening is maintained. No longer do the Dragons simply rely upon their guests to honor the rules of Elysium; instead now measures are taken at the doors to ensure that none are smuggling weapons into the building; to ensure that the kindred attending are recognized members of the court in good standing – or have been vouched for by the covenant leader. Perhaps the presence of Belial’s Brood has caused the keepers of the Elysium to become more vigilant in their pledge to protect those who enter the hallowed halls.

Dionclath is disbanded. Florian Durand command the attention of the court with an apology from the Invictus for the inept handling of the troubles facing the racks in the domain on behalf of the coterie’s leader, David Riley, who was unable to attend the gathering that evening. Many believe his lack of appearance at the gathering a result of his decision to stand with the Carthians. These duties instead have been transferred to the Chronos Foundation who will now see to the duties of maintaining and ensuring the longevity of the racks. For the remainder of the evening many of the Invictus spent the night speaking amongst themselves and entertaining yet another Montreal visitor. Another member of the Invictus, Sybill, joins the court. How long that may last no one really knows. Perhaps her visit will become as extended as Gabriel Winchester’s and be named to a diplomatic posting amongst the Invictus of Toronto.

The Carthians have discarded their Eliza King Experiment. What does that mean? Well a few suggest that they have had a change in the manner through which they will govern themselves, and hope to see all kindred governed. Anything more than that you’d really have to ask the Carthians. Why was it called the Eliza King Experiment? What is the new Experiment called? How do they plan to rule themselves? What type of ideology are they espousing now? With this declaration by Akiva Koen’s to the Prince many speculate that to be a sign that the sibling of the Prince has assumed leadership of the Carthians and lead them now under a new vision. What shape that vision is to take on is yet to be seen, but this sudden change has grabbed the attention of many.

The Lancea Sanctum for the time being is no longer being run by the Archbishop. Instead at the last gathering all responsibilities for the covenant were handed over to Roland Kaine who is no longer a Bishop of the dark church, but instead has been named as General amongst the Sanctified to lead the war against Belial’s Brood. The Lancea Sanctum have stepped forward as the sword that will help cut this cancer from the domain. Near the close of the Elysium the Reeve stood before the court and expressed to them his concern regarding the presence of Belial’s Brood within the Domain. That all are expected to keep their head down and report any sightings they may have to himself or the Archons. Through them they intend to coordinate all those who have the skills to help rid the city of this menace. For those present it seemed a sincere warning.

John Hawk. At first it looked like he wasn’t interested in actually being amongst the court while he watched from an armchair. But as time passed and more and more of the prominent members of the court sat and spoke with him some began to wonder. Perhaps this ancillae was making a point. He too is able to hold court when he chooses. A strong supporter of Prince Jameson it is likely his influence will continue to be bent to her aid.

Nicolas de Navarre. For almost a century he stood as a high ranking member of the Ordo Dracul. The assistant keeper of Elysium and often the social face of the covenant, Mr. de Navarre has left the Dragons, and returned to the Invictus. What’s more is that he has been named by Prince Jameson to the post of Seneschal. These constant shifts in the court are keeping many on their toes, and raising speculation as to how long it will be before the Prince is able to settle into a quiet rule like that of her sire.

Chester Borden. Sibling to Justin Fairfax, and for over 90 years the Unbound critic of the court, has joined the ranks of the Lancea Sanctum. What this exactly means no one is sure. But the types of concerns this raises are being discussed. Has he gone into the same covenant as his blood brother seeking vengeance? Was the execution of his family enough to drive him from the periphery of the court and instead step into the very maw of the beast which has destroyed most of his family? Only time will tell his true intentions and many watch with interest to see what those might be.

Michael Corbin. Some remember him as the grandchilde of Hollinger who left the Sanctified in disgust the night Anastasia Marek attacked the Prince and a visiting dignitary. Gone for over 20 years many had forgotten about his existence, but this sommelier of vitae has returned, and clearly flexing the prestige of his family’s name has been welcomed into the ranks of the city’s Archons. Surprisingly he chose to return and join the Invictus rather than the Lancea Sanctum many would have expected. It seems that he bears the covenant some blame still for the actions of the once Sanctified leader.

Karolina Hansen. For just over a year she managed to stay in the ranks of the Ordo Dracul. But as of this gathering it became apparent that she no longer counted herself among the Dragons. Instead she moved through the gathering coordinating efforts to meet the new requirements placed upon her coterie by the Invictus. Which covenant does she seem to be leaning towards? Well actually it doesn’t seem like any. Unless you believe the rumors that she’s recruiting. But recruiting for whom?

Evan Drake. The cloaked form of this young Mekhet was watched spending most of his night speaking with the members of the Lancea Sanctum. If the rumor is true, d’Alessandro himself, the Archbishop of the covenant, spoke with Drake and asked him to return to the faithful. Like the other members of his coterie who joined the Ordo Dracul over a year ago he too has left their ranks. A devout follower of God many assume it a matter of time before he has joined the ranks of the Sanctified again.

Kage. While often overlooked by many within the court this silent warrior of the Chronos Foundation, many noticed as he in step with Kari, left the Ordo Dracul as well. While the numbers of the Dragons quickly dwindle only a few within the community have remembered to wonder where the quiet Nosferatu will find his home next.

Jared Penrose. The once architect and designer of Invictus havens has been covenant-less for approximately a year now. For sometime it appeared as though the Carthians may be taking him in, or that Mr. Penrose had decided to spend his time among the Unbound of the Toronto domain, but as the Akiva Koen presented himself before the Prince regarding the discarding by the Carthians of their previous experiment, his arrival with Connor Truman to support this initiative, is a clear sign that he has been welcomed fully into the ranks of the Movement.

Anthony SanGestasi. Little is known about this vampire. Young by the court standards; younger even than Evan Drake; Anthony was recently released by his sire Cyrus Winters to attend court. At first many assumed he would end up in the ranks of the Invictus. Instead as the months passed and Mr. SanGestasi continued to attend he spent more and more of his time in the company of the Lancea Sanctum. At the last gathering he was named an official member of the covenant. So far his sire has had little to say about his decision to join the Sanctified of Toronto.
