The Young Inherit 1905-Present

This section is going to be filled by those characters selected to be ancilla. In my game setting ancilla is sometimes a denotation of age, but can also cover those individuals who for whatever reason carry a certain distinction within Kindred society.

In the nights after the fire, the Invictus met, ushering in the new Prince. In the nights after the fire, Eliza King, the eldest surviving childe of the old Prince hunted the streets in search of her quarry. Prince Hollinger formally commanded the citizens of Toronto to hunt down Henry Lange for his crimes against the city. Where the accounts of this period differ is whether King knew about the edict when she killed Lange. She presented his walking stick to the court as proof of her act.

Few who were at Elysium on the night of February 23rd 1922 can forget the freezing, soaking wet Kindred who would come to be known as Mr. Lawrence arriving unannounced to claim sanctuary. The then youngster was quickly incarcerated by Master of Elysium Kathrine Querry, to be detained for questioning. Few, however, know or remember how it came to be that by 1924 the same wayward Kindred would claim the title Master of Elysium himself, after his new mentor Kathrine left the city in a manner most sudden and mysterious. It remains even more mysterious how such an young outsider could hold on to the position all these years, and come to lead the Ordo Dracul in modern nights.

In the early 1940s an American Carthian arrived in Toronto, who paid a significant fee to arrange a meeting with Prince Hollinger. When the pre-arranged meeting occurred, the Carthian betrayed both Hawk and Hollinger in an ambush. The stranger turned out to be Unbound and not aligned with the Carthians at all. Both Hawk and Hollinger easily evaded the group of neonate assassins, but not before Hollinger informed Hawk that he would be held responsible and had until the end of the night to either deal with the would be assassins or leave the city. Within hours, the bodies of all 5 assassins were found in Elysium posed in various positions of penitence. They displayed no obvious signs of injury, though each appeared to be blind and held a single hawk feather held between each of their clasped hands.

It was on a visit to Kari Hansen - the newly named Covenant Head of the Carthians - in 1986 that Prince Dorat of Montreal was attacked by Anastasia Marek, a childe of Henry Lange. Marek was not killed, but beaten into torpor that she remains in to date. Prince Hollinger did not investigate the matter in order to avoid any difficulties between cities, however Kari, who was a witness, was visibly drawn and quiet for several weeks after the incident.

Founded in 1984 the Renewed Order of the Temple somehow managed to spread quickly and extensively through the Ontario and Quebec regions. Joseph Lanier first arrived in the domain of Toronto in 1986 from Quebec all of his documentation in order; it seemed that Joseph was amicably beginning the process of integrating himself into the court. Shortly after his arrival the Order took center stage in the news of Toronto as Catholic communities decried their presence and the growing congregations at the Temple.

As the court tried to come to grips with Marek’s outburst and resulting torporing, Lanier became the only member of the Lancea Sanctum left within the domain. Over the course of the next year he continued to vocally call for cooperation amongst the kindred of the domain and a return to the old practices of kindred in positions of power embracing large broods to help ensure the stability of the domain. Such advocating on behalf of the embrace ran contrary to the very basic tenants of the Lancea Sanctum causing some within the city to pause. Why would Joseph publicly call for such?

The question would never receive a satisfactory answer. By 1989, Lanier was rarely seen at court having retreated to his own activities. The announcement of his bloodhunt to some was just a matter of time. The Renewed Order of the Temple had been brought by Joseph Lanier who had been embracing the most loyal members of the cult to serve him and his designs. The crime he was primarily charged with was the endangerment of the masquerade through the repeated creation of childer. The court also had to recognize that in some regards this was a challenge to Prince Hollinger’s authority.

Was it any surprise then that Ingrid Jameson, still very young by kindred standards, was the individual responsible for fulfilling the bloodhunt? It is clear that Ingrid not only destroyed Joseph but also all of his childer. The exact numbers are a secret that only Ingrid and supposedly the Prince are able to answer.

January 1st, 1996: Five people are found in an apartment in the east end. The bodies were pulled apart, limb by limb; the attack seemed the work of an animal. The teeth marks and missing chunks of flesh seemed to support the claim. It took the police one day to tie the report of a woman walking the streets soaked in blood with the attack. Hours later a picture of that woman was aired on the news, with police requesting any information that might lead to her arrest. The picture bore a striking resemblance to Lyta Troy. Murmurs spread quickly through the court, but several problems arose. One, a picture? No kindred would show up on film. Two, Lyta was in the company of a number of court members at one of Florian Durand’s parties at the time of the incident. Josephine Crafton - a descendent of the Andersen line and Archon to the Reeve - was the first to find the thing that bore the image of Lyta. Josephine was also its first kindred victim, leaving the remains of an emaciated husk that shattered when handled. Luckily, Lyta managed to kill it before it acquired a taste for kindred. Some say that it was made of stone - like some sort of statue carved with Lyta’s face - and that somewhere in the city the remains still reside.
